A search has started for a man and two children missing in Northland's Mangamuka Forest.
The 40-year-old man and children, aged 13 and six, went into the bush on Friday morning and were intending to be home for dinner, police northern communications Inspector Cornell Kluessien said.
Family launched a search when the group did not return, and police were alerted last night.
Mr Kluessien said a full scale search began this morning at first light.
The trio, whose vehicle was located on Blackridge Road, were wearing clothing sufficient for a day hike and had no food or other supplies.
Police said last night severe weather was affecting search efforts.
However, it was not believed to be hampering rescue teams this morning, Mr Kluessien said.
Heavy rain and damaging winds have hit from Northland to Waikato and across the Bay of Plenty and Gisborne this weekend.
