A search has resumed this morning for a German tourist missing in the Travers Saddle area of Nelson Lakes National Park.
A backpack belonging to Christian Prehn, full of gear and personal items, was found last Saturday beside a track in the area but police said it may have been there since February 25.
Three search teams were being flown into the area this morning. They were equipped for an overnight stay if required, search co-ordinator Senior Constable Dave Colville said.
Earlier this week the search was hampered by snow and freezing conditions.
Mr Prehn arrived in New Zealand in October on a one-year tourist visa.
