A search resumed this morning for a man missing from a dinghy which capsized in Fouveaux Strait off Bluff yesterday.
Three people were thrown into the sea when their 3.6m dinghy was overturned by a wave off Stirling Pt yesterday afternoon.
Two men were rescued but a third person was last seen trying to swim to shore. He was Peter John McClelland, 18, of Invercargill.
Invercargill police said today they had concerns for his safety.
Searchers scoured the area until after dark last night but there was no sign of Mr McClelland.
A shore search resumed this morning but the rough weather delayed a decision for a rescue helicopter to join the search.
Witnesses yesterday watched Mr McClelland struggle to swim ashore to get help, while his companions were left clinging to their upturned dinghy about 200m from shore.
His two friends were picked up by the Bluff fishing boat Rex, whose crew continued searching for a short time before taking the men back to shore.
