Forest and Bird's Seabird of the Year poll to find the country's most popular seabird will open tomorrow.
The charity has run a bird of the year poll since 2005, but this year the poll only includes seabirds, to highlight their importance and the significant threat to them.
Some of those campaigning on behalf of a seabird include New Zealand First leader Winston Peters for Buller's shearwater, United Future leader Peter Dunne for the northern royal albatross and Green Party co-leader Metiria Turei for the brown skua.
The campaign managers will be creating posters, videos, and blogs in support of 'their' birds during the poll.
Votes can be placed at www.seabirdoftheyear.org.nz.
