Search for missing NZ canoeist off Scotland

A search is under way off the coast of Scotland for an unnamed New Zealand canoeist.

The New Zealander, who was on a canoe trip, is described as blond and aged 51.

The man is an experienced canoeist, has lived in the Shetlands for many years and has gone away on long expeditions in the past.

Police say this time it is unusual that he has been away for so long without making contact.

He was last seen when he parked his car in the village of Bigton to set out on the trip off the rugged west coast of the islands.

Search teams using a helicopter and four boats have already spent a day trying to find him. Volunteers are also scouring the coast.
