A man has gone missing while kayaking on a Canterbury lake.
The man was spotted by a member of the public struggling to stay afloat after falling out of his kayak around 150m to 200m from the shore on Lake Coleridge around 4.40pm on Saturday, police said.
A rescue helicopter was sent to the scene, but the kayaker had disappeared from the surface by the time it arrived around 5.15pm, police said.
An aerial search of the area was carried out, but the man could not be found.
Canterbury Police search and rescue and a police dive squad from Wellington spent the last two days searching the area as well as the surrounding shoreline, police said in a statement tonight.
