The search for a missing 79-year-old woman, who was last seen on Monday, has been suspended.
Police said a decision to call off the search for Whangamata resident Alison Philip was made last night after several days of unsuccessful land and sea search missions in the Coromandel.
Police, LandSAR volunteers and members of Newmont Waihi Gold's Mine Rescue Squad had all been called in to participate in the search, focused around Bowentown, Waihi Beach and Matakana Island.
Police Northern Communications inspector Steve Kose said searchers believed Mrs Philip, whose car was located at Anzac Bay in Bowentown on Tuesday morning, may have gone into the water.
"They've found her vehicle which is close to a beach and they believe she's either gone into the water or gone from that location," he said.
