Police are searching for a man who smashed a car into an overbridge near Levin and took off on foot early today.
The car struck the bridge over the Manakau railway station, about 12km south of Levin, about 12.45am, police central communications Inspector Mike Coleman said.
"The driver's taken off on foot... he can't be too badly injured," he told NZPA.
Police were sweeping the area so they could find and interview the driver.
