Searchers resumed the search this morning for the body of a man presumed drowned after a tragic flounder fishing trip southeast of Auckland on Friday night.
One man has been found dead and a second is still missing following the ill-fated expedition at Kawakawa Bay at the top of the Firth of Thames on Friday night.
Three men initially went looking for flounder on mud flats at Kawakawa Bay with spear guns and lights but one decided to turn back as he was uncomfortable about being in the water with an incoming tide.
The other two pressed on but failed to return to their vehicle.
The body of one man was found yesterday, reasonably close to where he went in, but the other has yet to be found.
"We've had divers out there since 11am today," Garry Larsen of the Police Maritime Unit said.
"The fixed wing of coastguard is also out there and the Westpac rescue helicopter is coming the area."
Mr Larsen said the search was likely to continue into the dark.
The name of the deceased men have yet to be released.
