A seal has been spotted near Frank Kitts Park in Wellington this morning.
A Department of Conservation spokesman said it was not unusual to see a seal pull up on the rocks near Frank Kitts park, on Wellington's Waterfront.
"You get tonnes of seals, it's not unusual for a seal to pop up there this time of year when the seas are a bit rough seals often pop in," he said.
He said as seals were wild animals, DoC would usually let them return to the sea in their own time.
"If they're just sitting there not causing problem then they are best left alone ... they'll return to the sea in their own time."
He said DoC had received no calls from members of the public about the seal at this stage.
Wellingtonians have shared pictures of the sea animal on social media.
One Twitter user said: "It's a seal-ly good morning! I just love our little #Wellington friend".
