A rescue operation was underway tonight with emergency services attempting to retrieve a seal from an Auckland farm.
A member of the public called 111 when they saw the seal run across the Dairy Flat Highway in Dairy Flat about 6.15pm, northern fire communications spokesman Jaron Phillips said.
"This was about 6-7km inland, so we thought it quite unusual," he said.
Fire crews were at the paddock with police and the Department of Conservation attempting to rescue the landlocked seal.
