This seagull (pictured) didn't look too impressed when it was rescued after becoming wedged in a car roof rack having been hit at 100km/h.
The car's owners discovered it half an hour later.
Gayle and Paul Johnson got the shock of their lives when they stopped for a break while travelling back to Auckland from a camping trip.
"We hit a seagull about half an hour before. You could see it coming straight at us and we couldn't do anything about it. When we hit it we didn't see it come out the back and we thought we might have missed it," Mrs Johnson said.
"When my husband got out he said: 'You're not going to believe this, there's a seagull stuck under the surfboards."'
The couple, from Torbay, worked to free the bird, whose wing had become lodged under the roof rack. After it was released, the bird "staggered" before flying away.
