A large seagull has been blamed for power cuts after it flew into power lines and brought them down this morning in Whangaparaoa and Stanmore Bay, just north of Auckland.
Power was cut to houses in the area after the incident about 8am. Lines company Vector said three crews were working on restoring power but it could not say when they would all have power back.
The lines were initially thought to have been draped over houses after the seagull flew into them, but Vector said they fell on a carport and not over houses.
Police initially cordoned off the area when the fault was reported but had since removed the cordons.
