Eight fire units were dispatched to a scrubfire which erupted late last night in the Northland settlement of Kaingaroa.
The isolated area lies on State Highway 10, northeast of Awanui and southwest of Doubtless Bay.
Fire Service shift manager Paul Radden said units were called in from as far away as Kaitaia and Mangonui as what appeared to be a scrubfire was spreading around the area of Pukewhai Rd.
At midnight, police said they were not involved in protecting residents from the fire. Last summer, fires caused major concerns and expense in the Far North, prompting the Department of Conservation to urge people to be diligent in the forested areas.
