KEY POINTS:
A scrub fire on a hillside in the Wellington suburb of Island Bay briefly threatened a handful of homes last night.
Wellington Fire District senior station officer Craig Campbell said firefighters were called at 5.45pm to Buckley Rd where the fire was endangering dwellings.
When the three fire trucks turned up flames were within a couple of metres of one house and families were evacuated from three dwellings.
The fire burned out an area 100m by 100m but was quickly brought under control and there were no injuries or damage to buildings.
Mr Campbell said the cause of the blaze was under investigation.
