A scrub fire east of Blenheim is still out of control this morning.
It's been burning since yesterday afternoon in steep terrain.
Principal Rural Fire Officer Richard McNamara says five planes and ground crews worked on the scene until it got dark, when the aircraft were withdrawn.
Strong southeast winds were fanning the flames, but these dropped back at about 4am.
Mr McNamara says there'll be another six aircraft deployed today, backed up by around 50 firefighters on the ground.
