Commuters returning home to the Kapiti Coast from Wellington tonight faced delays after a scrub fire near train tracks led KiwiRail to replace trains on the Paraparaumu line with buses.
KiwiRail spokesman Nigel Parry said the company had switched off power to the tracks between Pukerua Bay and Paekakariki at about 4.20pm because of the fire.
Trains would run to Plimmerton, and buses had been arranged to transport passengers between Plimmerton and Paekakariki.
KiwiRail was unsure when train services would resume and were waiting on the all-clear from the Fire Service, Mr Parry said.
