Scrub fire contained in Far North

Firefighters have contained a huge scrub blaze in the Far North.

Fire Service spokesman Scott Osmond said two helicopters and volunteers from all over the district have been fighting the blaze near Ahipara.

He said the fire had spread over 50 hectares.

Crews will remain at the scene of the fire overnight.

It is not known at this stage what caused the blaze.
