A scrub fire broke out in a central Auckland suburban gully early this morning, temporarily closing a railway line and cutting power to the area.
Fire Service northern shift manager Scott Osmond said the fire, which broke out at 3am, quickly spread across the bush-clad gully either side of the eastern rail corridor at Meadowbank.
He said five crews fought two fires that stretched a few hundred metres on opposite sides of the tracks.
The eastern line was closed and power cut to the area as firefighters tackled the blaze.
Trains had now resumed running on the line and power had since been restored.
