The team investigating the slaying of Manawatu farmer Scott Guy has been downsized, but the family remains confident of his killer being found.
Mr Guy, 31, was shot dead in the driveway of his Aorangi Rd, Feilding, in the early hours of July 8 last year.
Around 40 police officers from around the country were brought in join the murder investigation team team but by December the number had been reduced to 24 and this year started off at just 14.
Investigation head Detective Inspector Sue Schwalger said this week the reduced numbers were due to less information coming in from the public, and investigation phases requiring increased manpower ending.
"Many of those extra staff were from out of town...and had been away from home for quite a considerable period," she told the Manawatu Standard.
She said more officers could be added if there was a significant breakthrough.
"If there are new phases that are identified and require further action and we need a larger team, then more staff will be brought in.
Ms Schwalger said the key to solving the crime was finding out what caused Mr Guy to become the victim of the shotgun attack.
"Answering that question is the key and someone may have some piece of information that tells us why he was killed.
"They may not know who killed him, they may not know the detail of events that morning but just passing on that information could open a lot of doors."
Mr Guy's father, Bryan Guy, told the Standard he was aware of the investigation team being downsized.
"We are still confident that they are gonna get there but it's going to take a bit of time. You've just got to be patient."
