Eketahuna ran in 13 tries in smashing Petone 83-0 in their Wellington premier division women's rugby match which kicked off the Wairarapa-Bush Rugby Union's 125th anniversary celebrations at Memorial Park on Saturday.
While Petone were missing some of their regular players little could be taken away from the outstanding all-round effort of an Eketahuna side which placed huge emphasis on attack, often running the ball out from behind their own goal-line.
Black Fern squad member Shakira Baker had a field day in the midfield, splitting the Petone defence time and again with her speed and aggressiveness.
She scored five tries and probably created another two or three.
Baker was just one of a number of Eketahuna backs to relish the opportunity to demonstrate her running skills.
Wing Heidi Wichman and fullback Tatiana Tafatu both scored a hat-trick of tries and were always looking for work and the inside combination of Laura Gavin, Black Fern Rebecca Mahoney and former New Zealand rugby league rep Maia Tua-Davidson seldom put a foot wrong.
The Eketahuna forwards earned a regular supply of quality ball for their backs to cut loose and they did just that.
No8 Emma Aldworth was also always close to the centre of the action as were props Kelly Hunt and Christine Wolland and hard-working flanker Jess Bennett.
Shakira Baker (5), Heidi Wichman (3), Tatiana Tafatu (3), Emma Aldworth and Laura Gavin scored Eketahuna's tries and Rebecca Mahoney kicked nine conversions.
