It may be time to put away the togs - scorching temperatures on Wednesday aren't likely to be repeated today, the MetService says.
While Napier was the hottest place in the country with a toasty high of 33.4C, it is today only expected to reach 21C, meteorologist Mariken van Laanen said.
Yesterday's temperature was a record high for readings taken at Napier Airport in November. The previous record, in 1982, was 31.4C.
Gisborne was the second hottest in the country on Wednesday with 33.3C, also breaking the record for a November temperature taken at the airport.
The previous record for Gisborne was taken in 1957 and was 32.4C.
