KEY POINTS:
A secondary school's policy forbidding publication of students' names with newspaper photographs has been reversed.
Waimate High School supplied a photograph to a local newspaper in March, but would not give names, the Timaru Herald reported today.
The principal at the time, Jan Hoyle, said the decision had been made because of the "paedophile issue", after discussions with the internet safety education group Netsafe.
New principal Janette Packman, who started at Waimate High School five weeks ago, said she would be taking a "commonsense approach" to publishing student names.
"We are proud of the achievements of our students and want them to be acknowledged appropriately," she said.
