A tie, dress shirt and shiny leather shoes aren't normally the recommended attire for cyclists, unless you're christening Auckland's first cycle track on school grounds.
Mayor Len Brown opened the track at Nga Iwi Primary School in Mangere last week.
The cycle track was built by the collaborative efforts and donations from local contractors and organisations.
One contractor gave his time and staff to build the track, another gave 40 tonnes of limestone and the Lion Foundation came up with money to buy bikes.
After an audit last year revealed low levels of cycling in South Auckland, Auckland Transport approached Nga Iwi about becoming the first school in Auckland to have a cycle track inside its grounds.
