A Manawatu secondary school is taking extreme measures to recruit staff.
Feilding High School is advertising for mathematics and technology teaching positions. Principal Roger Menzies says they are offering applicants an extra $17,500, on top of their current pay.
He says because of pay parity with primary and early childhood teachers, the Government can not afford to pay competitive salaries to secondary teachers. Mr Menzies says the extra money comes from the school's independent revenue stream, which is generated mostly from their hostel.
