To say Wairarapa-Bush dominated the race for the second division title at the Hurricanes secondary schoolgirls regional rugby tournament at Yarrow Stadium, New Plymouth would be a gross understatement.
In their three winning performances they racked up a total of remarkable 162 points while, just as remarkably, keeping their opposition scoreless.
A 15-0 beating of Wanganui in their opening game was hardly a warning of what was to come. Taranaki B were disposed off by a whopping 91-0 and Horowhenua-Kapiti were also on the end of a thumping, this time 56-0.
Play maker and goal kicker Jessie Bennett, who had earlier been part of Manawatu's NPC senior women's squad, was named Wairarapa-Bush's most valuable player ansd she, along with leading try scorer Shakira Baker and Grace Koskella, were also named in the tournament team.
Unfortunately, however, that side will not play their usual end-of-season fixture with their Auckland tournament counterparts due to a lack of funds, and the same reason could also mean the age group tourneys in general are not played in 2010.
