A Nelson schoolgirl who ran on to an interschool rugby match wearing only knickers has been stood down, and given a black mark by bikini streaker Lisa Lewis.
Heidi Wardrop, 17, a Year 13 student at Nelson College for Girls, streaked on to the game between Nelson College and Shirley Boys' High School 20 minutes into the second half before a crowd of hundreds on Tuesday.
Miss Wardrop said the streak was "completely spontaneous", resulting from a dare when the game became boring, the Nelson Mail reported.
Streaking was something she had wanted to do because her brothers had done it, she said.
She had been talking with friends about Lisa Lewis, who disrupted the first All Blacks-Ireland test in Hamilton when she ran on to the field in a bikini. Ms Lewis said last night she had heard about Miss Wardrop's actions but declined to comment on how she felt being a role model for would-be streakers.
She said she did not support streaking and was genuinely sorry for offending people by her actions.
Ms Lewis said while she did not regret it, she had had to face consequences which included getting a criminal record and being ostracised by some family members.
However, it was not an entirely negative experience.
Ms Lewis auctioned her streaker's bikini on Trade Me and was confident she had a genuine $4000 buyer in Australia.
Heidi Wardrop has been stood down until Monday, when the board will decide her future.
