KEY POINTS:
Two new charges have been laid and name suppression has been lifted for Christopher Dean Matthews, charged with a sex attack on a 15-year-old girl in the grounds of a Christchurch school.
Defence counsel Mark Callaghan said continuation of the suppression order granted on Monday was not sought.
It lapsed today with Matthews' remand appearance in Christchurch District Court at which Judge Stephen Erber further remanded him in custody to a pre-depositions hearing on October 9.
The suppression had been granted so that Matthews, a 41-year-old Woolston man, could tell his family of the charges he faced. The judge was told that he had elderly parents in ill-health.
Police allege the attack happened in school grounds in Selwyn Street on September 2.
Matthews was originally charged with unlawfully taking the girl away without her consent and with intent to have sex with her, injuring her with reckless disregard for her safety, and sexually violating her by unlawful sexual connection.
Today, there were additional charges of detaining her with intent to have sex, and another of sexual violation.
