KEY POINTS:
A 13-year-old schoolgirl is dead after being struck by a logging truck as she walked to Mt Maunganui College this morning.
Police said the girl from Tauranga was clipped by the truck as she crossed the road heading towards Mt Maunganui. She died on the way to hospital.
The logging truck did not stop but it was possible that the driver may have been unaware he hit the girl.
Inquiries were continuing.
