Police are investigating a prolonged attack that left a 14-year-old Kaitaia College student unconscious on the ground while another 14-year-old female student kicked her.
According to police the teenager was attacked late on Monday morning, taking a number of punches and knees to the face, which rendered her unconscious.
She was then repeatedly kicked as she lay on the ground.
The injured girl received medical attention but was back at school on Tuesday.
A 14-year-old girl appeared before a Justice of the Peace in Kaitaia on Wednesday charged with injuring with intent to injure and assault, the latter relating to an incident outside a Kaitaia bar before Christmas, where she police say she repeatedly punched a male victim in the face.
