A Hamilton 12-year-old boy got more than he bargained for when he took a short cut from school yesterday.
The boy's leg became impaled on a steel fence spike as he tried to climb over a high security fence at Melville High School.
Teachers ran to the boy's aid and held him until emergency services arrived, the Waikato Times reported today.
Firefighters cut the fence before he was boy was taken to Waikato Hospital.
He was reported to be in a stable condition today
