KEY POINTS:
He's got only one leg but Harry Crawford can keep up with the best of them.
When West Auckland's Sunderland School and College signed up as the first school to complete the Auckland Rescue Helicopter Trust fundraiser Chopper Challenge Fitness Test, the 10-year-old didn't just complete the training - he also raised more than $500.
The figure was the third highest in the school, behind students Cara Cunningham and Kaitlin Hardie, and contributed to the school's $7500 total.
The three were rewarded with a helicopter flight yesterday.
Children in the challenge did an age-adjusted fitness test similar to the physical training done by rescuers.
Among Harry's tasks was carrying a stretcher 30m, powerwalking with a 6kg pack on his back and skipping for two minutes without stopping.
The Year 5 student said he enjoyed the experience, but wouldn't repeat it too soon.
"It gets a bit tiring after doing it a couple of times" said Harry, a keen sailor, who also plays tennis and cricket.
"The skipping was one of the hardest because you couldn't stop.
The stretcher-carry was his favourite - "it just felt like bringing your bag home from school".
Harry lost the lower half of his right leg in an accident when he was 5.
