A high school rugby coach has been warned by police for his behaviour during a rugby game which ended in a mass brawl involving students and adults alike.
Up to 50 people were said to be involved in a heated altercation at an under-15s match between Levin's Waiopehu College and Feilding High School, in the Manawatu district.
The incident happened in August, but police told Fairfax today that one of the team's coaches had been issued a warning by police.
Acting Senior Sergeant Jeff Veale said the coach from Waiopehu College - who has not been identified - was warned about his behaviour in the incident.
He told the publication that those students involved had not played a rugby match since and would not play while the local union - the Manawatu Rugby Union - was carrying out its own investigation into the incident.
