His appearance followed a joint investigation by police and the Ministry of Education.
The man faces five charges of using a document for pecuniary advantage.
He was granted interim name suppression and all details of the offending were also suppressed.
He was remanded on bail to reappear on February 19 and ordered to surrender his passport.
