A dispute between neighbours over a fight between a cat and dog led to media reports of an armed man in the west Auckland suburb of Avondale this afternoon.
The dispute started when a resident tried to intervene as a dog attacked a cat on a property near Rosebank Rd, nzherald.co.nz was told. It is believed that the dog's owner took exception to his neighbour's intervention and a fight broke out between the two.
It is alleged that during the fight, a threat to use a firearm was made. Police said that no actual firearm was produced.
Two nearby schools and a kindergarten, including Avondale College where a teacher was knifed by a student last year, were locked down about 2:15pm.
Acting principal Phil Hill said students were notified of an incident in the area and were kept in the school according to their lockdown procedure.
Police said the "minor" incident was resolved after about an hour.
