St Patrick's School pupils yesterday celebrated the New Zealand win at the Rugby World Cup with an All Black Monday.
Principal Steve Wheeler said "sports-mad, All Black crazy" volunteer caretaker Michelle Beaver had arranged the celebratory eclipse of the pupils' usually green school uniform after the national team hoisted the cup at Twickenham at the weekend.
Mr Wheeler, an expat Brit from London, said that after the early exit of England from the contest his black attire yesterday was not a case of "dressing in mourning" but was actually a tip of the hat to the legendary New Zealand team.
"It was a fantastic performance and the All Black win was fully deserved. Although we took some back in the rugby league this morning. It was a great weekend."
Mr Wheeler, whose wife Olivia teaches at Chanel College in Masterton, said he was genuine in his admiration for the winning Rugby World Cup side and was pleased the staff and pupils at his school had also dressed in traditional Kiwi strip for the occasion.
