KEY POINTS:
Auckland singers Joseph Gardner (tenor), Derek Hill (tenor), Alexandra Ioan (soprano) and Penelope Watson (mezzo soprano/contralto) have won places in the NZ Opera School, which takes place at Wanganui Collegiate from January 3-14.
They will join 22 singers from around the country at the residential school, which is in its 14th year. They will receive intensive vocal, language, movement and acting training, and stage a range of events for the public as part of Energy Direct NZ Wanganui Opera Week. The school culminates with a concert on January 12 at the Royal Wanganui Opera House. Teachers include British vocal consultant Professor Paul Farrington, soprano Margaret Medlyn, baritone Barry Mora and tenor Richard Greager.
