An arson at a disused school near Levin is not thought to be linked to other suspicious fires in the Wellington region.
The fire was discovered inside the front building of Muhunoa East School by a police officer on patrol about 11.40pm on Friday.
It gutted the building, but the outer buildings were undamaged, Levin CIB Detective Slade Sturmey said.
The Levin Fire Service put out the fire.
Police and the Fire Service examined the scene on Saturday and Mr Sturmey said today that "at this stage, there isn't anything to indicate that this matter is related to any other suspicious fires. Police enquiries are continuing".
Anyone with information relating to suspicious fires or any sightings of suspicious vehicles or people in the Arapaeapae, Muhunoa East Road areas, should contact Levin police.
Meanwhile police have not yet made any arrests following arson attacks on an abandoned Lower Hutt college and Wellington's Basin Reserve last week.
