KEY POINTS:
A 14-year-old boy said to have shown three Tauranga primary school students a pistol today has been questioned by police.
The incident happened about 12.30pm at Selwyn Ridge Primary School in the suburb of Welcome Bay, Senior Sergeant Wayne Mills said.
Children said the boy walked up to the boundary of the sports field where they were playing, showed them what appeared to be a pistol, then walked away.
Police cordoned off the area and children were kept in school for a short time after 3pm, Mr Mills said.
The Armed Offenders Squad and police searched an address near the school and spoke to a 14-year-old boy who had an imitation pistol.
