Two people remain hospitalised following a school bus crash on the East Coast yesterday.
Twelve teenagers and three others were injured when the bus crashed into a ditch on Whareata Rd, State Highway 2, south of Gisborne, about 3.30pm.
The bus, which had up to 40 people on board, was carrying schoolgirls from Turakina Maori Girls' College in Marton on their way to a kapa haka competition.
A St John Ambulance spokesman said no one was trapped in the crash, but 15 people were taken to Gisborne Hospital with minor to moderate injuries.
Tairawhiti District Health Board's director of nursing Sonia Gamblen told TVNZ's Breakfast show that by 10pm one person remained in hospital and the others were discharged.
