A brawl between Marlborough Girls' College students and a former student on school grounds on Friday was eventually broken up with the assistance of the police.
Principal Karen Stewart confirmed the incident, and said that five students were involved and other students stood and watched.
"Obviously there were other students who were standing around and watching as well," she said.
The fight, which began when a former student entered the grounds, was instigated by current students, Ms Stewart said. Four females, aged from 14 to 17, have been charged with assault with intent to injure.
