KEY POINTS:
School boards are issuing a joint plea for "desperately needed" extra funding to be handed out in next week's budget.
NZ School Trustees Association president Lorraine Kerr said the extra money was needed now to slow down increasing pressure on school boards.
"Thousands of New Zealanders have recently put themselves forward to govern our schools for the next three years... that has to be supported by providing sufficient funding to do the job," Ms Kerr said.
NZSTA had gone to Education Minister Steve Maharey to ask for urgent increases to relief teacher funding, funding for information and communication technology, and base funding, which was not keeping pace with cost rises.
Ms Kerr said a funding review was currently underway, but by providing boards with some interim relief the Government would demonstrate its commitment to addressing funding issues.
