Wairarapa under-17s netball coach Robyn Schischka believes the versatility of her players will be a definite plus at their national tournament, which gets under way in Wanganui on Saturday.
She said all team members had shown the ability to inter-change positions without adversely affecting the overall performance, something which had to be an advantage during the hard grind of tournament play.
"It's always good to have players who are adaptable, who aren't fazed when they are asked to play out off their normal positions," Schischka said.
Schischka has been happy with the pre-tournament results achieved by her side, considering they had often been depleted through the matches clashing with inter-school commitments.
"It has been a bit disjointed in that we have seldom had the chance to put a full strength side on court but we have still managed to compete strongly against some very good teams," she said. "And it's meant we have had to try out a number of different combinations and and that's useful too."
Schishka is confident that in terms of both skill and court craft her team will measure up well at nationals, where the 38 competing teams have been drawn into six sections of five and two sections of four. In Wairarapa's pool are Taupo, Hamilton City, Bay of Plenty Blue and Thames Valley.
Brief pen pictures of the Wairarapa team are:-

Harriet Somerville (St Matthew's Collegiate). Vice captain who plays mainly at centre. Her height is an asset in all areas of the court, especially through the midcourt.
