Netsafe is getting a large number of reports where offenders try to use an eBay "protected programme" to obtain money.
The scammers advertise an underpriced motor home in local papers in New Zealand. The vehicle is overseas and cannot be inspected. The seller insists the buyer pays using the "eBay buyer protection programme".
The offenders claim the purchase price is held by the programme until the victim receives the car and is satisfied. However, the victim never receives the vehicle and loses their money.
