Athletics Carterton officials are pondering the wisdom of taking their inaugural summer road racing 5km series around the Wairarapa region.
Just as had been the case in previous venues no locals turned up for the fourth race in the series held at Martinborough. There was though a handy field of 13 regulars and most of them managed to improve on their times.
It was walker Barry Saville who showed the most improvement, covering the course in a time two minutes faster than he registered before. Ali Lang was another walker to shine while the first runner home was Justus Verheij who has improved his time by 90secs over the series.
Results, in order of handicap time and actual time: Barry Saville 48.35, 34.25; Ali Lang 49.09, 41.39; Sandra Saville 50.47, 47.47; Denise Richardson 50.47, 47.47; Robbie Wilton 51.12, 41.12; Justus Verheij 51.13, 23.23; Michael Scott 51.35, 22.35; Greg Lang 51.44, 21.44;John Sage 51.45, 20.30; Craig Ewing 52.03, 21.23; Craig Bird 52.12, 21.22; Lloyd Millar 52.44, 24.34; Norm Wilton 54.03, 35.43.
The last of the pre-Christmas races in this series will be held in Carterton next Tuesday, starting from the Marquis of Normandy Hotel at 6.15pm.The format will be a turkey trot where the athletes have to estimate their times with the closest to being correct being declared the winner.
