Coach Kelly Sargent got her wish when Harcourts walloped Gladstone All Blacks 79-29 in their Netball Wairarapa premier one match at the Genesis Recreation Centre in Masterton on Monday night.
Sargent was wanting a more consistent effort from unbeaten Harcourts than they had shown in their previous fixture against Sports Arena Carterton and she was pleased with the manner in which they responded to that challenge.
"We needed to get greater flow into our game," she said. "We had to improve our speed and our accuracy. We had got a bit lazy, we had to work harder than we were."
A 50-goal win would suggest it was very much one-way traffic but Sargent said there was a very different feeling on court.
"Honestly, the end result was deceiving," she said "It never felt as easy as the score suggested, they kept us on our toes."
Of all the quarters it was the fourth and last where Harcourts called the tune, scoring 25 goals then to their opposition's four.
"We really got things going in that last 15 minutes, it would be nice to think we could play that way all the time," Sargent said.
Interestingly enough there were two Katie Wyeths in the match and the sisters-in-law both had strong games. The Katie Wyeth at centre for Harcourts was impressive with her high workrate while the Katie Wyeth (nee Anderson) at wing attack for Gladstone All Blacks was equally busy for her side.
Goal shoot Hope Phillips also shone for Harcourts with her elevation and accurate shooting while Elena Heggie and Asti Karaitiana were imposing on defence.
The other premier one match scheduled for Monday night, that between St Matthew's Collegiate and Carterton Red, was deferred until Friday evening.
