Golf can at times be a frustrating game, but it also has its fair share of memorable quotes. The notable golf coach Harvey Pennick once said "Golf has probably kept more people sane than psychiatrists have." Walter Hagen once said "What a shame to waste those great shots on the practice tee."
But perhaps one quote that many golfers should keep in mind when they do not have the best of starts to their round and this one came from the legendary Sam Snead - "No matter what happens - never give up a hole... In tossing in your cards after a bad beginning you also undermine your whole game, because to quit between tee and green is more habit-forming than drinking a highball before breakfast."
This coming week-end sees the women getting their season under way with a LGU round on Saturday, which is also the first round of the Nett Aggregate. This is also the first qualifying round for the Faulknors Service Station Shoot Out.
For the men, Saturday's competition is a medal round and a Faulknors Service Station Shoot Out qualifying round, as well as the first of three rounds for the Nett Aggregate trophy.
Sunday is Waitangi Day, and the annual tournament for the Dick Haira Trophy.
