A truck involved in two Marlborough fatal crashes within just over a year - although with different drivers - was a "grim coincidence", its owner says.
The same truck that collided with a car on State Highway 1 south of Ward on Saturday, killing the car's driver, was also involved in a smash with a light truck in July last year, The Marlborough Express reported.
In the earlier crash, at the intersection of Rapaura Road and State Highway 1, the light truck's driver, Justin Wallace, 25, from Blenheim, was killed.
On Saturday, the truck was being driven by an employee of Auckland-based Broadway General Carriers Ltd, on contract for Freight Lines.
"It is a grim coincidence, but we can firmly say neither tragic incident was a fault of ours," Broadway General Carriers Ltd company owner Keith Church said.
