A 71-year-old sailor is being airlifted from his stricken yacht off Stewart Island. He asked to be taken off the vessel after it lost power and began taking on water.
Search and Rescue does not believe the man is injured, but mission controller John Dickson said the weather is very rough.
He said the sailor would be flown to Southland Hospital in Invercargill for a check-up.
