KEY POINTS:
A key route to Eden Park is to receive traffic calming measures to reduce risks to pedestrians and cyclists before the Rugby World Cup kicks off there in 2011.
Ian McKinnon Drive, a 1300m link between Upper Queen St and Dominion Rd where 75 crashes have been reported in the five years from 2002, is to have its speed limit of 70km/h cut to 50km/h under a package of measures approved yesterday by Auckland City Council's transport committee.
Other features of the $500,000 package will include traffic lights at its intersection with Piwakawaka St (formerly Devon St) where many vehicles rush down a hill from Newton Rd, and pedestrian signals across the head of Dominion Rd at shops near Charles St.
